Restore the American Dream

The American Dream was once a dream of an America in which life should be better, richer and fuller for all, because with hard work, ability, moral behavior and dedication you could assure yourself an opportunity for achievement or success.
The second sentence of the Declaration of Independence gave birth to the idea of the American Dream. It states that "all men are created equal" and have "certain inalienable Rights" including "Life, Liberty and the pursuit of Happiness." This ideal has inspired generations to create an American experience of national pride, innovation, individual freedom, self reliance and prosperity that fueled the country to world leadership.
Since WWI the United States has been regarded as a beacon of liberty and prosperity achieved through a combination of the philosophical and ethical principles conceived by the founding fathers. Around the world America has been viewed as the promised land where one's prospects in life are defined by one's talents and energy making it a destination for immigrants worldwide in search of a better life. This included the opportunity for their children to receive an education and career opportunities. It represented the opportunity to make individual choices without the restrictions of gender, race, religion or an oppressive government. Today the American Dream is still alive and well in third world countries around the globe yet here at home it has lost its' luster.
I am also sad to say that I have several friends I work with who immigrated to the U.S. over the past 10 to 15 years from eastern Europe, who now tell me that they feel as though America is turning toward the very thing that they tried to escape socialism. That is a sobering thing to hear.
So what has happened that we find ourselves in our current situation?...

- Della, had a great debate on U.S.Constitution.net message board about how the Seventh Amendment has eroded State Sovereignty. 100% agree with you, that if we had Senators from the ranks of State legislature choice, that Senator would be imposing the Constitution on the Federal Government's unconstitutional usurpation of powers. Appealing the 17th Amendment is a must.
The end result will be, we the people will suddenly be in charge of our own destiny, in that we can actually legally avoid paying taxes by not buying anything new, should we ever again have a Constitutional Crisis as are now.
Thanks for your support, I wrote this a little over a month ago. I feel very strongly about this particular post and another one called "Calling all Conservative Leaders,Statesman and Patriots..." http://wp.me/pv8jP-ci - The thing is we need to reclaim our values if we want to reclaim our country. We have to find a way to make the time to get involved and make this a priority. Otherwise we will regret it. As Ronald Reagan said,“Freedom is never more than one generation away from extinction. We didn’t pass it to our children in the bloodstream. It must be fought for, protected, and handed on for them to do the same, or one day we will spend our sunset years telling our children and our children’s children what it was once like in the United States where men were free”.
