When Sarah Palin, during the post Iowa media spin feast, warned GOP leaders to not "marginalize" the Ron Paul supporters, she was looking ahead to the greatest challenge faced by whoever captures the nomination. The Republican leaders in DC loathe Ron Paul, and they loathe the thousands of mostly young activists he is bringing into [...]

Headlines announcing record purchases of guns during the Christmas gift giving season must have infuriated a lot of liberals. It's a sign that another one of their tired old arguments is not resonating and they are losing on this crucial issue. The very anti Second Amendment Barack Obama and his Party have some impressive and [...]

When Beverly Hills residents found out that many of their city's 950 municipal and public safety employees were earning stunning salaries, 13 weeks of paid vacation, unlimited overtime and other tax-free retirement benefits, taxpayers were outraged and city officials rushed into closed-door sessions to figure out what to do. These revelations, exposed through the efforts [...]

President Obama may have gone too far even for the tastes of the Beltway one-party system, when he made a "recess" appointment while there was no Congressional recess. Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell said the appointment of Richard Cordray to serve as director of the Consumer Financial Protection Bureau (CFPB) and three pro-union members of [...]

Rep. Darrell Issa (R-CA) gave Attorney General Eric Holder a choice during the House Judiciary hearing on Fast and Furious on December 8: go before Issa's House Oversight and Government Reform Committee voluntarily or expect a subpoena within a month. The AG apparently opted for the less splashy option. "Hostile witness" Holder will face Issa's [...]

FairTax Friday l A new year, 2012, for the tax reform that could

"We will open the book. Its pages are blank. We are going to put words on them ourselves. The book is called Opportunity and its first chapter is New Year's Day." - Edith Lovejoy Pierce

A New Year for the Tax Reform that Could

One of my fondest memories growing up was my mother reading to me after lunch. As she read another chapter I eagerly listened while learning about courage, loyalty and patriotism.

Of all the books she read, one simple story had a profound impact on my view of approaching adversity and impossible tasks in life.

The Little Engine That Could is a simple yet beautiful story that chronicles a train desperately trying to find an engine to pull it over a mountain. After being rejected by many large, modern engines the train finally finds a tiny, old engine that agrees to do the best it can in pulling the train. The engine hooks on and believing it can, starts slowly ascending the mountain all the while saying to itself, "I think I can, I think I can. I think I can."

As we begin FairTax 2012, I am once again reminded of The Little Engine That Could. The naysayers in Congress and political talking heads are always eager to point out why the FairTax isn't a viable tax replacement plan.  Major corporations, who have coalesced together to influence and control the tax reform discussion, are fueling these "big engines". To many this kind of adversity would be overwhelming.

What all these forces fail to realize, however, is the FairTax train was founded and is being pulled by an engine known as the American people. Our dedicated team of grassroots activist are at the heart of the FairTax engine and your "I think I can" spirit comes through in everything you do.

The mountain is high but our train is climbing and our engine is making sure and steady progress. During the coming weeks we will focus on specific action items that we need you to do in the weeks and months ahead. I am confident that working together the FairTax train is capable of going up and over the mountain. Are you?

How to Kill a Vampire named Washington, D.C. Sunshine State News

...To fend off a vampire, one must use garlic or a crucifix. In this instance, garlic will be the passage of the Fair Tax. The Fair Tax will replace the current confiscatory, incentive-killing federal tax code. The personal income tax, payroll tax, capital gains tax, corporate income tax, and estate tax would be eliminated under the Fair Tax and replaced by a national consumption tax on all retail purchases. Each American citizen will decide when he or she pays taxes under the Fair Tax based on when he or she makes a retail purchase. The cost of compliance will decrease to almost nothing...
