This week marks the passing of a West Michigan legend,
Rusty Dutkiewicz. As a wife and mother, she was essential to Dick's Market, the family business and a fixture in our small town.
Rusty was renowned as the driving force behind North Allegan Right to Life. When Rusty put out the call "For the babies!!" volunteers lined up for Right to Life's Dorr Parade float and Allegan Fair booth. Business owners donated. She coordinated people going to Lansing to report back on RTL Legislative Day. She was a firecracker!
She also knew how to nurture.
One of the last messages she left on my voicemail was, "Abby, you have a voice. People listen to you. Use your voice!!"
I thank God for Rusty and her example of activism. I'm humbled by her generous encouragement, and I hope she would have been pleased.
In honor of Rusty, please take time this week to cuddle a baby and nurture some principled activism!
Best,
Abby
