FairTax under Attack! Campaign ads distort issue, scare voters
"We either stand and fight now for the truth about the FairTax or we will never see Congressional support sufficient to win even a hearing in Congress, much less enactment"— Ken Hoagland
November Congressional elections are predicted to change the face of Congress again. Widespread voter discontent with high unemployment, unprecedented government spending and the prospect of significant tax increases has voters ready to bring about a huge shift in representation. The FairTax could gain significant new support in Congress.
There are more candidates running on the FairTax than ever before in the history of the FairTax movement and they have not only sparked hope but have inspired out-and-out lies about the FairTax, as well as more subtle distortions of the issue by opponents. "We either stand and fight now for the truth about the FairTax or we will never see Congressional support sufficient to win even a hearing in Congress," said FairTax National Victory Campaign Chairman, Ken Hoagland.
The Democratic Congressional Campaign Committee has produced TV and radio ads, localized for the candidate they support, that accuse FairTax candidates of seeking "a 23% tax increase on everything…" Although false, these ads have proved effective in the past when candidates do not stand and fight for the issue.
"Unfortunately, candidates are getting advice from Washington, D.C. political operatives from their own party to cut and run away from the FairTax," said Hoagland. "Washington doesn't like the FairTax because it breaks so many 'rice-bowls' there, so support for the issue will have to come from us, the grassroot supporters," he said. "When a candidate stands and fights for the truth about the FairTax, they win. When they fail to answer these lies or run away, they almost always lose," said Hoagland.
Hoagland said that he and other FairTax officials were willing and legally able to train candidates on the issue without violating federal campaign rules. "We will be offering such training, appearing on talk shows in contested districts and holding press conferences to defend our issue and inform the public that cynical candidates are employing bold-faced lies to distort this needed legislation and scare voters away," he said. Hoagland added that an independent Political Action Committee would be raising funds for hard hitting radio and TV ads to answer the lies about the FairTax.
FactCheck.org condemns anti-FairTax ads that distort the issue
Earlier this year the Democratic Congressional Campaign Committee took out ads distorting the FairTax in support of Mark Critz, who was running to fill the seat of the late John Murtha in Pennsylvania. Although caught deceiving voters, the same or similar ads are appearing now in Indiana, Michigan and elsewhere across the country.
FactCheck, found, "..this ad is quite misleading because it fails to mention that the FairTax proposal would also repeal the federal income tax entirely and do away with the Internal Revenue Service. It would also eliminate gift, estate, capital gains, alternative minimum, Social Security, Medicare and self-employment taxes. But anyone viewing the DCCC's ad could easily conclude that [the candidate] favored slapping a 23 percent sales tax on top of all existing taxes, which is not true."
In that race our independent PAC took out TV and radio ads defending the FairTax the night before the Republican candidate distanced himself from the FairTax--reportedly on the advice of Republican National Congressional Campaign Committee officials. "These ads in defense of the FairTax made little difference in the outcome once the candidate ran away from the issue," said Hoagland.
"We won't get any help from campaign officials in Washington, D.C." said Hoagland. "As usual, it is [the] hometown American trying to do the right thing while Washington insiders of both parties undermine the best hope for our nation to see real employment gains and an end to the corruption of the tax code," Hoagland said.
FairTax.org Calls on Activists for Candidate Information
Hoagland asked FairTaxers around the nation to send information to the organization on candidates who support the Fairtax. "We need to immediately create a comprehensive database of Congressional candidates in support of the FairTax and campaign where the issue is being distorted by opponents of the FairTax," he said.
FairTax supporters are asked to write with their hometown location, the names of pro and anti-FairTax candidates and other election information about the race in their area. FairTaxers can click here to send us an email about elections in your area.
"Now is when we come together and flex our grassroots strength to make a difference. If we allow our issue to be distorted we are giving up our best chance yet to see the FairTax move forward with widespread public support. This is either a disaster for us and our issue or the chance to advance our cause with the American public," he said.

Richard F. Hill: A taxing way to solve illegal immigration
Monday, August 2, 2010

The current situation in Arizona is of great concern to me.  It is true that Arizona is the largest gateway for both illegal drugs and illegal aliens.  Far too many people assume, however, that all illegals coming through Arizona are somehow involved with the Mexican drug cartels.  Some undoubtedly are, but very few I think.  Some may be forced to be "mules" carrying drugs under threat of death.  But the vast majority of illegal aliens come into this country for one reason - jobs.

Isn't it interesting that during this Great Recession when our unemployment rate is so high, we have a huge influx of people willing to risk all to come here and get a job?  How can this be?  Well, obviously, they must have an employer to have that job.  Is it you that hires a nanny to look after your kids?  Is she an illegal?  Oh, I see, you never asked because she works for less money than others.  You don't pay taxes on her wages, do you?  Oh, yes, she is just "part time help" who just happens to be there every afternoon.  That makes her your employee unless you have a written contract with her, or an agency, as a business.  An illegal won't have that company because she'd have to pay taxes and would be caught.  But all this isn't any of your business, is it?   I suppose it is okay since he is just one illegal out of 12 million or so, and you do need help with your kids.

Do you complain about the illegals?  Hypocrite.

And then there are the really big offenders like the major agribusiness corporations.  If the laws we already have on the books were enforced, then those companies would no longer be paying employees less than minimum wage and failing to collect and pay taxes.    It boils down to this:  Any business found hiring illegal immigrants could face significant and serious sanctions, including, but not limited to, fines, restrictions on ability to do business, and even jail time.  The real issue here is not illegal immigration, it is taxes.  The only reason any business hires an illegal is taxes, taxes that are not going to be paid by anyone, employee or employer.

If the laws were enforced, the only employees they would have would be citizens and legal immigrants.

That is the major problem we have, and Congress knows it well since they are regularly visited by lobbyists for those companies.  According to OpenSecrets.org, the Center for Responsive Politics, the top agribusiness contributors to federal candidates and parties have given $30,624,312 thus far in the 2010 election cycle.  These donations, of course, do not all impact on the illegal immigrant situation, but you can bet your boots that some of it does.  And this is just one business grouping.

There is, however, a very simple way to solve the problem and make everyone in this country pay the taxes they should, and no more.  It is called the FairTax.

The FairTax Act (HR 25, S 296) is nonpartisan legislation. It abolishes all federal personal and corporate income taxes, gift, estate, capital gains, alternative minimum, Social Security, Medicare, and self-employment taxes and replaces them with one simple, visible, federal retail sales tax  administered primarily by existing state sales tax authorities.

It is important to note that this is a revenue-neutral issue, meaning it brings in the same amount of taxes as are received by the federal government now. But, because it is a consumption tax and not an income tax, we are taxed only on what we buy.  Nothing comes out of a paycheck.  You keep it all and then spend what you wish.  This taxation method was first introduced as legislation in 1999. But research on it started in about 1995.

The FairTax plan is a comprehensive proposal that replaces all federal income and payroll based taxes with an integrated approach including a progressive national retail sales tax, a prebate to ensure no American pays federal taxes on spending up to the poverty level, dollar-for-dollar federal revenue replacement, and, through companion legislation, the repeal of the 16th Amendment. This nonpartisan legislation (HR 25/S 1025) abolishes all federal personal and corporate income taxes, gift, estate, capital gains, alternative minimum, Social Security, Medicare, and self-employment taxes and replaces them with one simple, visible, federal retail sales tax; administered primarily by existing state sales tax authorities. The IRS is disbanded and defunded. The FairTax taxes us only on what we choose to spend on new goods or services, not on what we earn. The FairTax is a fair, efficient, transparent, and intelligent solution to the frustration and inequity of our current tax system.

But to get back to my point regarding the hiring of illegal aliens, the FairTax will, for the first time, tax undocumented workers who now evade U.S. income and payroll taxes. Under the FairTax, all persons living in the U.S. pay taxes, whether they are here legally or illegally.  So, if Congress had the guts to approve the FairTax, the illegal immigrant influx would be greatly reduced, if not eliminated.  Why?  Simply because there would be no reason to hire someone just to save taxes.  What taxes?  So why not comply with the law and hire a citizen or legal immigrant?  It makes sense to do so simply because the citizen or legal immigrant is going to be better educated and thus be a better employee.

I invite you to visit www.FairTax.org to learn more.

And remember, the only reason that this bill has not become law is the Congress.  Their hands are too deep into the pockets of those who oppose the FairTax.  The only way to change that is for the people to tell their elected leaders, and those who are running for a position, that your vote depends on their support of the FairTax.  We can do it, but only we can do it.

Lastly, let us remember that we are all immigrants, and many of our ancestors came here because they were not wanted in some other country, or maybe because they wanted a job.

Did You Know?
How does the FairTax affect U.S. competitiveness in foreign trade?
Because the FairTax is automatically border adjustable, the 17 percent competitive advantage, on average, of foreign producers is eliminated, immediately boosting U.S. competitiveness overseas. American companies doing business internationally are able to sell their goods at lower prices but at similar margins, and this brings jobs to America.
In addition, U.S. companies with investments or plants abroad bring home overseas profits without the penalty of paying income taxes, thus resulting in more U.S. capital investment.
And lastly, imports and domestic production are on a level playing field. Exported goods are not subject to the FairTax, since they are not consumed in the U.S.; but imported goods sold in the U.S. are subject to the FairTax because these products are consumed domestically.

ATTACKING OUR RIGHT TO VOTE'~WH has no interest in protecting right to vote of men & women fighting for & dying for us overseas

ATTACKING OUR RIGHT TO VOTE

Posted August 5, 2010
The right to vote is perhaps the most cherished and important of the rights guaranteed to Americans by the Constitution. Without the right to vote we literally have no way to control the Federal government and keep it from taking away our other rights. Yet, it is precisely because of that fact that the so-called progressives in this country are now trying to severely limit the right to vote, and unfortunately the efforts are coming at us from all three branches of government. We can also expect them to intensify as the November elections grow closer.
First, we have the attack by the Congress on the 1st Amendment right of all businesses and groups to participate in the election process. This came in the form of the Disclose Act, which thanks to the efforts of  you and many other Americans has at least temporarily stalled in the Senate after passing the House of Representatives.
Then, we have the blatant actions of Attorney General Eric Holder and the Department of Justice (DOJ) in making a decision to drop the civil suits against members of the Black Panther Party who were videoed during the 2008 election intimidating white voters in Philadelphia. According to J. Christian Adams, a former DOJ attorney, he and his colleagues were informed that the office would not prosecute any minorities for voter intimidation, but would only prosecute whites who intimidated minority voters.
Apparently, that was only the beginning. Historically, members of the military and their families have voted overwhelmingly for conservative political candidates who support the values that the troops are fighting for. This has always been an irritant to the left so there have been increasing efforts by the progressives in some states to derive ways to keep absentee votes from the military from being counted. These tactics have primarily involved waiting so late to send out the ballots to the troops that it would be virtually impossible for them to return them by the election deadline.
In October of 2009 President Obama signed into law a bill introduced by Senator John Cornyn (R. TX) that required the Secretaries of State in each state to mail out absentee ballots to military personnel no later than 45 days prior to the election. This could only be avoided by the Secretary of State getting a waiver because of something unforeseen happening that would prevent the ballots from going out on time.
It sounds great doesn't it? A left wing controlled Congress passing such legislation and Obama actually signing it. Yet, now it has been learned by the few members of the media who will report on this that at a recent meeting between DOJ officials and the Secretaries of State of various state governments, the DOJ told them not to worry about getting waivers or complying with the law. They were told that the Department of Justice had no intention of enforcing it. In other words, the whole thing was a ruse. The Executive Branch of government has no interest in protecting the right to vote of the men and women fighting for and dying for us overseas.
So, as you can see there is two pronged attack on the right to vote coming from Congress and the White House. First, Congress will do everything it can to limit the free speech efforts by people who disagree with this administration from influencing the election. Secondly, the DOJ has virtually declared an open season during the 2010 election for groups supporting the left to do what is necessary to intimidate voters who might oppose the progressive agenda. At the same time, the DOJ will do its part to help eliminate from consideration votes coming from our heroes overseas in the war.
As unbelievable as all of this is, it gets worse when you look at what has being done by the third branch of government, the Judicial Branch. Certain far left Federal Judges who have their own political agendas have decided to adopt the approach that if you don't vote for the things I support, you vote won't count. This has clearly been the case in the recent rulings on the Arizona Immigration Law and the California Marriage Law.
In both of these cases we have the voters of a sovereign state passing legislation that applies only to their states. Yet, because the progressives don't like these laws they are essentially telling the citizens of these states that you no longer have the right to vote. Do not let yourself be fooled by the decisions that these two pieces of legislation were unconstitutional. Nothing in the Constitution of the United States prohibits the State of Arizona from passing a law allowing its police officers to enforce an already existing Federal law..
In addition, there is nothing at all in the Constitution dealing with marriage whether heterosexual or otherwise. Therefore the states have this power under the specific provisions of the Tenth Amendment that says:"The powers not delegated to the United States by the Constitution, nor prohibited by it to the States, are reserved to the States respectively, or to the people."
That is very clear. Whether you agree or disagree with the prohibition of gay marriage by the people of the State of California the fact is that the decision is up to them and when a Federal judge takes that power away from the people, they are being denied their right to vote. That, by the way, is a right clearly granted to the people by the Constitution and can't be legally taken away by any branch of the Federal Government.

All I can say is our country is in such big trouble, I just don't understand how this has gotten so far and why so many people seem to be unaware of what's going on. I'm trying to open some people's eyes, but some just refuse to see it. I'm scared and frustrated with the whole mess. Thanks, Michael.
