Subject: Ronald Reagan would have been 99 today, here is a tribute

Thinking of President Reagan always reminds me of my Grandmother. She
had that same beautiful smile, humor and great love for people and our
country.
I always enjoyed listening to President Ronald Reagan's great depth of
wisdom, compassion, common sense, and determination to bring freedom to
every people.
Here is some of his humorous moments:
"I'm afraid I can't use a mule. I have several hundred up on Capitol
Hill." -refusing a gift of a mule
"I want you to know that also I will not make age an issue of this
campaign. I am not going to exploit, for political purposes, my
opponent's youth and inexperience." -during a 1984 presidential debate
with Walter Mondale
The best minds are not in government. If any were, business would steal
them away.
It's true hard work never killed anybody, but I figure, why take the
chance?
I never drink coffee at lunch. I find it keeps me awake for the
afternoon.
I have left orders to be awakened at any time in case of national
emergency, even if I'm in a cabinet meeting.
Thomas Jefferson once said, 'We should never judge a president by his
age, only by his works.' And ever since he told me that, I stopped
worrying.
Before I refuse to take your questions, I have an opening statement.
But there are advantages to being elected President. The day after I
was elected, I had my high school grades classified Top Secret.
Ronald Reagan
I now begin the journey that will lead me into the sunset of my life. I
know that for America there will always be a bright dawn ahead.
With our eyes fixed on the future, but recognizing the realities of
today. ... we will achieve our destiny to be as a shining city on a
hill for all mankind to see.
"A troubled and afflicted mankind looks to us, pleading for us to keep
our rendezvous with destiny; that we will uphold the principles of
self-reliance, self-discipline, morality, and, above all, responsible
liberty for every individual that we will become that shining city on a
hill." We are indeed, and we are today, the last best hope of man on
earth."
"We fought, we dreamed, that dream is still with us."
Ronald Reagan,
"The American dream is not that every man must be level
with every other man. The American dream is that every man
must be free to become whatever God intends he should
become."
"If not us, then who; if not now, then when." — President Ronald Reagan
"Freedom is a fragile thing and is never more than one generation away
from extinction. It is not ours by inheritance; it must be fought for
and defended constantly by each generation, for it comes only once to a
people. Those who have known freedom, and then lost it, have never
known it again."
"America will never be whole as long as the right to life
granted by our Creator is denied to the unborn."
The American dream is not that every man must be level
with every other man. The American dream is that every man
must be free to become whatever God intends he should
become."
"Republicans believe every day is the 4th of July. Democrats believe
every day is April 15th".
We have every right to dream heroic dreams and after all why shouldn't
we believe that? We are Americans.
Let us be sure that those who come after us will say of us in our time,
that in our time we did every thing that could be done, we finished the
race, we kept them free, we kept the faith. All we need to begin with
is a dream that we can do better than before. All we need to have is
faith and that dream will come true. All we need to do is act and the
time for action is now. The world's hopes rest in America's future.
America's hopes rest with us, so let us go forward to create our world
of tomorrow in faith in unity and in love.
"The real question today is not when human life begins,
but, 'What is the value of human life?' The abortionist
who reassembles the arms and legs of a tiny baby to make
sure all its parts have been torn from its mother's body
can hardly doubt whether it is a human being."
-- President Ronald Reagan
