"Everything is energy and that is all there is to it. Match the frequency of the reality you want and you cannot help but get that reality." - Albert Einstein Something is different in the 114th Congress. As you walk the halls you begin to feel it. Go into offices and it gets stronger. Talk to members and their staff and you begin to sense they feel it too. What is it? It's energy. And this week Steve Hayes, AFFT Chairman and President, and I saw a veritable fountain of FairTax energy from Senator Jerry Moran (KS) and Senator David Perdue (GA), who introduced the FairTax® legislation (now S. 155) in the U.S. Senate. Their energy was palpable. Senator Moran excitedly told us that when he puts his name on something he's all in! And by the expression on his face and the tone of his voice, you knew the Senator was all FairTax business and he is not afraid to stand and defend America's only tax replacement plan. It was clear that Moran is not afraid to stand and deliver. We felt the same kind of energy with Senator Perdue, who also excitedly shared how he and Senator Moran were working together to develop a strategy to advance the FairTax in the Senate. And he was insistent that we return to Washington soon so we can continue the FairTax education process. All I can say is wow! With Congressman Woodall in the House along with Senators Moran and Perdue in the Senate, it's a new day for the FairTax in Congress, a new energy and a new push. And frankly, it couldn't have come soon enough. This week we also met with a tax aide for one of our H.R. 25 co-sponsors, who relayed a conversation he had with an IRS agent prior to the 2013 government shutdown. As the aide and agent discussed the then-imminent government shutdown, the IRS agent boldly proclaimed, "you can't shut the IRS down, we are the command center for the entire federal government." Well that's a bold newsflash that somehow missed the nightly news broadcast! And yet, we have this toxic, narcissistic agency engaging the national news media to deceive the American people into thinking that this $11 billion agency is on the brink of financial collapse and can't help taxpayers during the height of tax filing season. The cuts the 113th Congress made to the IRS are the equivalent of a gnat on an elephant, so this latest stunt has all the markings of a classic Washington ploy, and frankly ladies and gentlemen, the American people deserve a heck of a lot better. Rest assured, we're ready to help the IRS by solving their budget problem. Congress can enact H.R. 25 / S. 155 and immediately return $11 billion dollars to the American taxpayer because the FairTax Plan disbands, defunds and eliminates the IRS in its entirety. That's right, with the FairTax Plan, the IRS is disbanded, defunded and eliminated. $11 billion saved and poor IRS Commissioner Koskinen will no longer have to worry about shutting down his agency for two days or not providing customer service during the height of tax filing because under the FairTax there are no tax returns. April 15 becomes just another spring day. America deserves a better tax code. We the People deserve a simple and fair tax system that respects privacy and equitable to all citizens. America deserves the FairTax. It was great to see and feel and be a part of the excitement and energy that Senators Moran and Perdue had for the FairTax. Let's keep the energy and momentum going with 500 new FairTax memberships! As Socrates said, "The secret of change is to focus all of your energy, not on fighting the old, but on building the new." Finally, please take a few minutes and call Congressman Rob Woodall (202) 225-4272, Senator Jerry Moran (202) 224-6521 and Senator David Perdue (202) 224-3521 and let them know how much you appreciate their leadership and energy on behalf of the FairTax Plan. Until next week, Cindy Canevaro Executive Director |
