NRLCA E-Activist Members,

This week, on Wednesday May 7th, the House Committee on Oversight and Government Reform will consider a new proposal from Chairman Darrell Issa. This bill, titled "The Administration's Postal Reform Act of 2014," would be extremely harmful to the U.S. Postal Service and rural letter carriers nationwide. In addition to the elimination of 6-day mail delivery, the bill would also open the mailbox up to private companies like UPS and FedEx. The bill also ignores the true cause of USPS losses by continuing to mandate billions in annual pre-funding of retiree health benefits.

We urge you to contact the members of the House Committee on Oversight and Government Reform and ask them to OPPOSE this new postal reform bill.

Thank you,
Michael Uehlein

  1. The bill being discussed is a proposal by the President, with a few changes thrown in.
How exactly is the bill "...would be extremely harmful to the U.S. Postal Service and rural letter carriers nationwide"?

Much of the proposal is about changing postal service to curbside boxes to make delivery more efficient.
The other major portion of this bill is to make sure the USPS has enough pension money to be able to fill it's obligations.
