"I look upon ourselves as partners in all of this, and that each of us contributes and does what he can do best." – Jonas Salk Our Volunteer Heroes One thing that has consistently separated the FairTax® movement from other campaigns is the sheer number of individuals who have dedicated their time, energy, financial resources and extraordinary talents to advancing the FairTax Plan. We have hundreds of thousands of supporters, like you, who donate, actively write your elected Representatives, work booths at local events, make presentations, pass out FairTax materials, assume local, state and regional leadership positions and work tirelessly to educate this great nation on why the income tax must be replaced with the FairTax Plan. It is not unusual for someone to call or write and say, "I want to volunteer, what can I do or put me to work." What is unusual is when someone says I think I can make a difference by doing X or Y and then proceeds to do it without fanfare and without the need for guidance. These are the individuals who just innately know what needs done and then engage others to help them achieve almost miraculous results. Ronald Reagan said, "The greatest leader is not necessarily the one who does the greatest things. He is the one that gets the people to do the greatest things." Today, I want to share with you two examples of great FairTax leaders. Dave Armstrong – The Slide Guy Dave Armstrong is the volunteer State Director for Indiana. Before retiring, Dave spent his career at a major international corporation, specializing in polymer seals. Like so many of you, one day Dave heard Neal Boortz talking on the radio about the FairTax. Intrigued, he then read Neal and John Linder's book and his FairTax passion was born. Off Dave went, speaking to anyone and everyone about the virtues of the FairTax Plan. But he felt there was more he could do. After the elections, Dave sensed that people of all political leanings felt a certain disillusionment. A natural born problem solver, he wanted to lift people's spirits and keep the FairTax in the public eye. Problem solved - he created a website, www.fairtaxdave.com and began producing "FairTax single message slides" for distribution on Facebook and Twitter. Today, Dave Armstrong has produced over 600 slides that have been posted and shared on countless Facebook and Twitter pages. His impact - incalculable. Dave is now offering his slides to any FairTax supporter for download and distribution on their Facebook and Twitter pages. Thanks Dave! They can be found here. Glen Terrell – The Master of LTTE For over 35 years, Glen Terrell, Ph.D. was an award winning, university based physics teacher. Concerned about public policy during the 2012 election cycle, Glen and his friends Norm Redhead and Roy Newsom developed a program to submit citizen opinions via "Letters to the Editor – LTTE." When the campaign ended, Glen learned about the FairTax Plan and decided his LTTE program could also help the FairTax campaign. That November, Glen sent me an email saying he felt he could make a difference with his LTTE program – we chatted and, as they say, the rest is history. Glen Terrell, along with Norm and Roy, launched the FairTax LTTE program and began recruiting volunteer writers. To date Glen Terrell has recruited over 100 volunteer writers who have had hundreds and hundreds of LTTE's, Opinion Editorials, blog pieces and misinformation corrections published in a variety of communication mediums across the United States. What's more, Glen and his team have developed a process that enables the LTTE team to immediately respond to, react, correct and proactively educate citizens and elected officials on the virtues of the FairTax Plan. Sadly, a key member of Glen's team – Roy Newsome – recently passed away. We will forever be grateful to Roy for his incredible contributions to the FairTax LTTE initiative. I would like to also express profound appreciation to Glen, Norm and the hundreds of members of this extraordinary team for a job very well done. If you have writing skills, a good understanding of the FairTax Plan and would like to be a member of this elite writing team, contact Glen Terrell at ggeett37aaa@gmail.com Rep. Bachmann signs on as Co-Sponsor Congratulations to the Minnesota FairTax team! Representative Michele Bachmann (MN-6) has signed on as the 69th co-sponsor of HR 25 in the U.S. House of Representatives. Hundreds of contacts with her office by FairTaxers have paid off! District Targeting Campaign update Finally, congratulations to Ron Babin, volunteer President of the Michigan FairTax Association, for the new FairTax billboard campaign he is initiating in Michigan's 4th Congressional District. This effort is part of our District Targeting Campaign that we shared with you earlier in the year. Ron's team is finalizing production of a major billboard that will be put up in a highly visible area of the 4th – home of Representative Dave Camp – Chairman of the House Ways and Means Committee. Once the boards are up we will share a picture. Until next week, Cindy Canevaro Executive Director |
