Weekly Feature FairTax Television Program Goes National July 4th! Made possible by generous donations from FairTax supporters and private investments that funded production costs, Americans across the nation will see a 30 minute television program on the FairTax. The FairTax National Victory Campaign is looking to broadcast the FairTax TV Program on or around July 4th . The Campaign will keep you posted on the exact times and channels when the information becomes available.
The special broadcast focuses on the many virtues of the FairTax and answers common questions about the needed reform. Special appearances by Newt Gingrich and Neal Boortz among others add compelling support for the issue to the program hosted by FairTax National Victory Campaign Chairman Ken Hoagland and "man on the street" co-host Paul Bartlau.
A 5-minute promotional video clip has also been produced (click here to watch) and will be made available to FairTax supporters to promote the broadcast. Every FairTax supporter is encouraged to help promote this important FairTax national broadcast.
"We all know that when people actually learn about the details, they enthusiastically embrace the FairTax," said Hoagland. "Here is the chance to bring our televised message into the homes of American families in every state," he said. "This is one more important way to build the citizen support that we need to trump Washington insiders who have slowed enactment of this legislation," he said.
The program was produced with private funding and the support of American for Fair Taxation and was produced over the past three months in Southern California. "FairTax supporters have made this 'air-time purchase' possible and we are all very grateful for that support. It is a highly professional presentation of the FairTax and explains not only the basic idea but what it can do to help our nation during these difficult times, "said Hoagland.

Beyond explaining the FairTax in both simple and more advanced terms, the program focuses on what average Americans can do to help passage of pending legislation and includes a call-to-action to sign a national petition in support of HR25. "We even offer viewers a copy of the legislation so they can read, themselves, how this needed reform is straightforward, simple and fair," said Hoagland. Read more»

In The News From the Jackson County Chronicle LETTER: FairTax is the best way to fund our federal government by Ken Becker | St. Louis, Mo.
I want to introduce to the public a new concept for funding the federal government. A new efficient tax system that is completely voluntary. This tax plan has been introduced to the United States Congress as the FairTax Act (H.R. 25/S. 296).
Imagine keeping every dime of your paycheck. No federal income tax taken out, no Social Security or Medicare tax taken out, no taxes on business and no taxes on investment income. Imagine on top of getting your full paycheck you would get a monthly payment to cover taxes on all necessities up to the poverty level. All of this would be replaced with a consumption tax of 23 percent on new purchases only.
No, the cost of everything you buy will not necessarily go up 23 percent under this plan. While the cost of new products would go up, many of the costs to produce products would be eliminated, which would reduce retail prices. How could this be? All taxes and tax compliance costs like tax preparation and accounting fees on production of a product are passed on through each process and then eventually passed on to you the consumer. These are called embedded costs. Economists estimate that there is roughly a 22 percent increase in the cost of merchandise due to embedded costs. Under the FairTax plan there would be no income tax and compliance costs passed on to the consumer.
Now imagine how businesses based overseas would react to a country that does not punish them for creating jobs. A country that says "Hey, if you come here and open a business, we will not tax you," business from all countries would flood into the U.S. to base their operations. One would literally have to hide under a rock in order to avoid getting a job.
The underground economy will be taxed at last. Illegal businesses such as drug dealing, prostitution as well as legitimate cash-only businesses that are evading taxes will finally be contributing to the federal government when they make purchases.
See the tax code in black and white with this new inclusive tax. When you see a product at the store for $100 it would be marked at $100 and your receipt will read $77 retailer $23 tax. No more accountants, special interests groups and politicians helping some become exempt from paying their fair share. Those who want to look wealthy will pay tax when they purchase luxury items. A consumption tax is a much less burdensome tax since it is paid by individuals both willing and able to pay it. It is not a penalty for productivity like the current income tax system.
The FairTax would change the way we fund Social Security and Medicare. Instead of taxing only 158 million workers, over 300 million citizens plus 50 million tourists who come from abroad will be funding our entitlement costs. Read more» Around the Nation First Report: Freedom Ride Gets in Gear

As the gears of government grind metal against metal, most citizens are worried about our economic engine seizing disastrously but most legislators take a "politics as usual" and "What, me worry?" attitude.
It's the spending, stupid.
In Greece, government bribes of voters out of the national Treasury means that hairdressers and many others can retire with full pensions at age 50. An era of more and generous benefits, pay and policies funded out of taxpayers pockets now threatens the future of Greece and the entire European union and many have rightly asked, "are we next?".
When politicians find that the shortest route to re-election is spending taxpayer's money on special interests' organized votes, government worker unions and pork barrel projects, even wealthy nations risk economic palsy that can cripple any chance at a healthy future.
Recent studies here in the USA have shown that federal government workers are, on average, better paid with better benefits than their counterparts in the private sector.
Since when did "public service" mean a better life for government workers than those hardworking Americans who pay the bills?
In hometowns across the nation, belts are being tightened. It's "Hamburger Helper" for millions of American families and lavish junkets, luxury jets and gourmet meals for Members of Congress.
Although the nation is sinking in a quicksand pool of public debt, for example, Congress recently voted to buy itself eight shiny new, top of the line luxury jets. Apparently, military transports were not considered quite posh enough for foreign junkets and travel back to home districts by those at the top.
So that Congress can enjoy the "Life Style of the Rich and Famous" the $500 million for these new jets was borrowed from China and other foreign lenders on the promise that our children and grandchildren will pay the money back, with interest. Add on the multi-million cost of maintenance, jet fuel and pilots on top of the initial price tag.
When we tax generations of American who have not even yet been born we are repeating the very thing that inspired our ancestors to revolt and form our nation -- it's "taxation without representation" all over again.
That tax revolt led to the creation of the greatest nation in the history of mankind -- the United States of America. But the noble vision of a free people, unencumbered by the petty whims and lavish lifestyles of an aristocracy is now in danger.
Like teenagers who have stolen their parent's credits card, our elected officials are drunk with runaway spending on themselves that now totals -- at the federal level alone -- more than $500,000 per American household!
There is only one force strong enough to stop this immoral theft of our children's and grandchildren's future earnings and our destructive headlong rush toward an economic cliff -- the American people themselves. Read more» |
