Campaign Update

May 13, 2009

Dear Friends and Supporters:

Our campaign team and I have continued to travel across our state and are having a great time meeting so many individuals who are interested in the future of our state.  Since our last update, we have covered the following events:

  • Clare County Republican Lincoln Breakfast in Harrison

  • Charlevoix County Republican Lincoln Dinner in Boyne Falls

  • Barry County Republican Lincoln Dinner in Hastings

  • Ride Your Bike to Work Kick-off Event in Kalamazoo

  • Kalamazoo Fundraiser at CityScape

  • Bay County Republican Lincoln Dinner in Bay City

A special thank you goes to my wife, Sandy, for going with me to the Clare and Charlevoix events this past Friday.  Also, thanks to Rob Bricker, one of our dedicated volunteers for representing us well at the Barry County Lincoln dinner.  On Saturday Sandy and I traveled to Detroit where I had the opportunity to meet with a group of individuals to discuss a number of issues concerning our state such as jobs, economy and health care.

This past Monday was the start of the Annual National Ride Your Bike to Work Week.  As a promoter of healthy behavior and wellness, I joined once again with our Kalamazoo Chamber of Commerce by riding my bike from home to downtown Kalamazoo (10.6 miles).   Participants attended a seminar on fitness and were treated to lunch provided by the Chamber.

Cycling is not only a terrific form of exercise, but it is also a useful mode of transportation to and from work, the store, school, and other places.  In addition, this event marks the beginning of the bike tours that I will be taking around the state during the summer months -- so stay tuned.

I am pleased to report that we also had our fifth fundraiser at CityScape in downtown Kalamazoo.  Like our other fundraisers this was a success thanks to our co-hosts and financial supporters!

Finally, with session and commitments in Lansing last night, Sandy and our daughter, Maria, represented our campaign and attended the Bay County Lincoln dinner.  Sandy grew up in Bay County and she enjoyed re-connecting with familiar faces and also meeting new grassroots activists.

This weekend I will be traveling to Saginaw and Berrien Counties and if you are interested in being a part of our campaign team please let us know by going to our website, www.georgeforgovernor.com and sign up today.  Together, we can fix Michigan!

Sincerely,

Tom George, MD

State Senator
