There is a great deal to cover on the tea party powwow in Mt. Pleasant today, but a little inspiration is in order.

With over three hundred tea party leaders representing over 50 organizations around the state, its safe to say the powwow was an incredible success.  A happy standing room only crowd with max seating in place should drive home the point that the Tea Party is hardly gone.

Emery McClendon is an Indiana Tea type who has become a sought after speaker at tea party events and was the winner of Americans for Prosperity's 2010 "Activist of the Year" award.  Enjoy.

The wise way to achieve Affordable Healthcare, not by Obamacare

What we need to do is go to a healthcare system run by the States or individually, replacing SSI and Medicare/aid with a HSA/IRA privately owned and inheritable. This can be done with a seamless transition when FairTax is implemented, ending payroll taxes, ending the Federal programs for those under age 40(approx) and an opt out for the older. Every dollar invested by the individual can be returned into an HSA/IRA. It may take 40 years to pay off, but it will bring us to fiscal stability, especially by enacting #FairTax.

"Politics is not a game. It is an earnest business." - Winston Churchill It's Time To End The Games  In the early 90's I was called for jury duty in Dallas. There were three defendants charged with intent to manufacture and distribute a kilo of cocaine. After two long weeks, the trial seemed more like a game than a serious, deliberative legal process. Sounds familiar doesn't it? Much like the political chess match currently playing out between the Executive and Congressional branches in Washington, D.C. We are blessed in this campaign to have tens of thousands of patriotic veterans supporting the FairTax Plan. I have thought of them often the past few days while we witnessed the cat and mouse political games that played out at their WWII Memorial. I've thought of my father who didn't consider it a game when he put his life on the line servicing planes at Pearl Harbor. I've thought of the brave young men who were mowed down by German resistance as they came up over the cliffs of Pointe du Hoc. I am confident they never considered their mission a game – nor did the Executive and Congressional leadership who supported them.  Yet today, our elected leadership appears to feel entitled to use whatever games necessary in their ever-escalating and dangerous chess match, including threatening to arrest 80-90 year old WWII veterans and even attacking them with their ultimate weapon – the IRS. Yes, the IRS is now targeting and punishing certain veterans' organizations for paperwork they were never even required to submit to the IRS.  And consider the case of Dr. Ben Carson who dared to offer an alternative view on political issues of the day during this year's National Day of Prayer. Shortly after making his nationally acclaimed remarks, IRS investigators confronted Dr. Carson demanding to examine properties he held after which they conducted a general audit. Not satisfied with Dr. Carson's clean record, they stated they wanted to look at another year. Dr. Carson, like veterans organizations and citizens and businesses across this nation, was forced to comply with an intrusive, abusive IRS examination or face certain prison time and the loss of his world-renowned medical license.  Was this because he chose to speak an alternative opinion?  You be the judge. Yet, when the House Oversight Committee tried to examine Lois Lerner, the now former head of the IRS tax exempt office, about her role in the targeting of conservative non-profits, it was clear different rules applied. She pled the 5th Amendment, was placed on paid administrative leave, retained super lawyer William Taylor of Zuckerman Spaeder LLP, retired with full pension and is now trying to negotiate an immunity deal. These 'games' continue and our nation suffers. With the FairTax Plan much of the gamesmanship ends.  Now, for the first time in history, the FairTax Plan will receive a vote by the Committee on Ways and Means. If you have had enough of Washington's abusive, intrusive, dehumanizing games, we need your time, energy and most importantly, your financial gifts as we prepare for this critical vote. We cannot do this alone.  This is a battle that will require every bit of will; determination, energy and means that we can afford to give it. It will require our full and complete commitment.  As we continue our battle for simple, fair and transparent taxation for every American, I am reminded of General Dwight D. Eisenhower's comments to the troops on the eve of the D-Day invasion. He said, "You are about to embark upon the Great Crusade, toward which we have striven these many months… The hopes and prayers of liberty-loving people everywhere march with you… I have full confidence in your courage and devotion to duty and skill in battle. We will accept nothing less than full Victory!" Why? Because on this day in 1913, one of America's worst Presidents, Woodrow Wilson, signed into law the Revenue Act of 1913, which imposed the income tax. The law signed that day by President Wilson, to be fair, wasn't that awful. The top tax rate was only 7 percent, the tax form was only 2 pages, and the entire tax code was only 400 pages. And a big chunk of the revenue actually was used to lower the tax burden on international trade (the basic tariff rate dropped form 40 percent to 25 percent). But just as tiny acorns become large oak trees, small taxes become big taxes and simple tax codes become complex monstrosities. And that's exactly what happened in the United States… Not to mention that the tax code has become one of the main sources of political corruption in Washington, impoverishing us while enriching the politicians, lobbyists, bureaucrats, and interest groups.
