Pray For The Vicitims Of Champlain Towers

Please continue praying for the victims of the Champlain Towers apartment building collapse in Miami. At this writing, at least four people are dead and nearly 100 are missing and unaccounted for. Rescue teams continue to risk their lives to heroically search through the rubble in the unstable building for survivors, so please pray for their safety, as well.
Considering the massive weight and height of the sudden collapse, there's little hope of survival, but miracles can happen. Here's a story of one: a man named Nicholas Balboa was walking his dog nearby when the collapse shook the ground like an earthquake. He ran toward the disaster and heard a boy calling for help. With images of 9/11 in his mind, he thought, "How could anyone survive this?" But then, he saw a small hand sticking up through the debris, with fingers wiggling. He and another man climbed up on the rubble and began trying to dig the boy out. Police and firefighters joined in. He had obviously been sleeping and was pinned under his mattress and bed frame, which probably saved his life. There are more details at the link.

Covid Origins Update

Researchers at Britain's University of Kent believe that the COVID-19 virus may have first appeared in China between early October and mid-November of 2019, weeks before the first official case was reported in Wuhan in December.
Also, The Fred Hutchinson Cancer Research Center in Seattle released a paper stating that they had recovered data from early Wuhan cases showing that cases linked to the animal market were variants of the original virus that had already spread to other parts of the country, further weakening the case for it coming from the Wuhan wet market.
All these unrelated discoveries put together would seem to suggest that the virus came from somewhere else, was around longer than we thought, and someone hasn't been completely transparent about what they knew and when they knew it. But who would have done such a thing? It's a puzzlement.
Biden To Tackle The "Root Cause" Of Violent Crime

The Biden Department of Justice is preparing to go after the cause of all the rampant violent crime in Democrat-run cities. No, they're not planning to arrest the mayors, DA's and city councils, unfortunately, even though those are the root causes. No, after all the releasing of criminals and rioters, decriminalizing crimes, protecting criminal illegal aliens, and defunding and prosecuting police, they've decided that the reason for the skyrocketing crime wave is… guns!
Yep, crime is caused by the hardware, not the criminal holding it. So they're going after dealers of illegal guns and after "assault weapons." I'm fine with them trying to get rid of illegal guns. In fact, it's kind of nice to hear them admit that most criminals like gang members don't buy guns legally and go through background checks (that's for law-abiding citizens); they get them through illegal channels. But I doubt that the crackdown on "illegal gun dealers" won't end up as harassment of legal gun dealers.
As for "assault weapons," I put that in quotes because it's a silly, meaningless term made up by people who know nothing about guns. Any weapon can be an assault weapon if you assault someone with it. If you defend yourself from that assault with the exact same kind of weapon, then it's a defensive weapon. This is the area that's ripest for abuse, and for trampling on the rights of citizens to defend themselves.
When you have Democrat politicians releasing criminals and rioters while defunding their police, if you think the solution to ending the resulting crime waves is to disarm law-abiding citizens, then you can only be a liberal or a moron. Sorry if I'm repeating myself.

Covid-19 Is A Woke Democrat

We have more proof that the COVID-19 virus is a Democrat. Remember how, during the height of the pandemic, government officials banned any large gatherings – except for BLM protests, where apparently, the virus had agreed not to spread.
Well, the virus is once again displaying its woke bona fides. In Evanston, Illinois, local officials deemed it safe to hold a Juneteeth parade and Pride Month celebrations, but canceled the Fourth of July celebration out of concerns over COVID.

So either the virus is a Democrat (loves to virtue signal on racial issues but hates displays of patriotism) or else the city officials of Evanston don't care if people who celebrate Juneteenth and Pride Month get a deadly disease, those racist homophobes.
Bet they didn't see that interpretation coming. But they should have, since it seems pretty obvious.
Britney Spears' Court-Ordered Conservatorship

I usually don't comment on celebrity news, but the testimony that came out of singer Britney Spears' attempt to end her court-ordered conservatorship was so shocking that it even led serious newscasts. It was also newsworthy in ways far beyond typical celebrity voyeurism.
As Megan Fox at PJ Media reports, Spears testified that she has been stripped of virtually every basic human right. She claims she's not only forced to perform and has no control over the money she earns, but she has zero privacy; her keepers watch her even when she's changing clothes; and most outrageous of all, she said she wants to marry again and have children, but the "team" controlling her life has banned her from doing that and forced her to have an IUD implanted to prevent pregnancy.
Ms Fox asks, where is the "My body, my choice" crowd? Will they speak up for someone who's being denied the choice to have a baby?
She also makes a second important point: this high profile case may shine a spotlight on much more widespread abuse of the conservatorship system by corrupt judges, greedy guardians and predatory lawyers. She reports on a couple of journalist investigations that suggest there may be thousands of similar cases of less wealthy, non-famous people, many in nursing homes, who have had their property and rights taken away by the scandalous abuse of the conservatorship system. Perhaps a public outcry over the Britney Spears case will spark more widespread reform.
After the story broke, Ms Spears made a statement to her fans about why she spoke out and why, she says, she's hidden the painful truth for so long behind fake happy images on Instagram. I suspect that's what many celebrities do, but hers is an extreme case.

Overdue Purple Heart Is Finally Given

Here's some reparations everyone should be able to get behind: 99-year-old former Army Private Osceola "Ozzie" Fletcher has finally received a Purple Heart for injuries he suffered during a German attack while delivering supplies to troops during the Battle of Normandy in 1944.

After Fletcher's granddaughter contacted the Army on his behalf, they acknowledged that many black soldiers had been denied Purple Hearts due to racial inequalities of the time, and they arranged for the long-overdue honor.
Fletcher told Fox News, "There were probably many others like myself who did not get honored, and I just lasted longer." Of course, that doesn't mean those who deserved the honor shouldn't receive it posthumously. I'm sure it would mean a lot to their families, and it's just the right thing to do, both for those veterans and for the historical record.

Statement On MI Senate Report on the November 3, 2020 Election in Michigan
 FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE June 24, 2021 The Rescue Michigan Coalition hereby releases the following response to the Michigan Senate Oversight Committee Report on the November 2020 Election in Michigan: In its 35 pages, the Michigan Senate Oversight Committee fails to debunk a single statement made by the Rescue Michigan Coalition. And yet incredibly, despite acknowledging on Page 24 that the process by which signatures were verified on absentee ballot envelopes – i.e., most ballots in Michigan – was found to be illegal by the Court of Claims, the report concludes that "citizens should be confident the results represent the true results of the ballots cast by the people of Michigan." To the contrary, the only thing citizens should be confident about is that this report exposes the true nature of its author and signatories (Senators McBroom, Theis, and Bizon). Make no mistake: Using this report to call upon Attorney General Dana Nessel to investigate "those who have been utilizing misleading and false information about Antrim County to raise money or publicity for their own ends" is an extraordinary abuse of office. The report cites no evidence that any individual (inferred to mean former Senator Pat Colbeck and attorney Matthew DePerno) has raised money for personal gain, and for that matter, no law that doing so would violate. Importantly – and as the committee members are surely aware – Attorney General Dana Nessel, along with Governor Gretchen Whitmer and Secretary of State Jocelyn Benson, have sought in federal court to have President Trump's attorneys disbarred. This too is an unprecedented abuse of the public trust, and attempts to set a dangerous precedent that would impermissibly chill both free speech and the right of all citizens to counsel. If the Senate Oversight Committee had any interest in defending the rights of the people of Michigan, it would have had hearings on this matter and worked diligently to expose this and other abuses of executive power. This report proves only that Senator McBroom, Senator Theis, and Senator Bizon are enemies of the people of Michigan. Adding Insult To Injury MI Legislature does nothing on Election Integrity
 George, This is likely the last week the legislature will be in session before adjourning for the summer, and after nearly six months in session, the Republican-controlled legislature has done almost nothing for election integrity. One of the few bills to have gone anywhere is Senate Bill 285/303/304, which together require ID to vote, including to vote absentee. But after passing the Senate last week, House Elections Committee Chair Ann Bollin refused to hold a hearing on it today. She also refused to hold a hearing on the Rescue Michigan election integrity bills. In fact, the committee didn't hold a hearing on anything of substance in this final week before their two-month summer vacation. Instead, her committee voted to pass five worthless bills it had taken testimony on previously, and promptly adjourned. The entire hearing was less than ten minutes. For the Senate's part, it's notable that the bill on voter ID (technically three, but one in essence) was only bill of any significance to even pass the Elections Committee in the Senate. Despite overwhelming eyewitness and video evidence of the wholesale criminal impeding of poll challengers, the bills on the rights of poll challengers (SB 309 and HB 4963) still sit in committee with no vote. Months after a court determined that Secretary of State Jocelyn Benson broke the law by effectively waiving all signature checks for absentee ballots, bills to require an objective and consistent signature verification standard (SB 308 and HB 4963) still sit in committee with no vote. Months ago, Tennessee passed a law requiring ballots be watermarked with almost-unanimous bipartisan support (even Democrats were too embarrassed to oppose it). Our bill requiring the same hasn't had a hearing. Bills to prevent corrupt clerks from hiring poll workers exclusively from one political party (HB 4962 and SB 294) sit in committee untouched. We have been extraordinarily patient with our lawmakers, preferring diplomacy and strong policy arguments to pressure and threats. But today's refusal by the House Elections Committee to take up any bill of substance before the extended break has sent a clear message: Republicans in Lansing aren't just taking their time. They are hostile to any meaningful election reform. Consider one of the bills voted out of committee today: House Bill 4837. On the surface, the bill appears to prevent private political organizations getting a direct line to the Secretary of State to register voters by app, the way the left-wing group "Rock the Vote" did last year. But when the bill was brought before the committee, the sponsor, Rep. Sarah Lightner of Jackson County, plainly testified that it did no such thing. She claimed it would simply "clear up confusion" among local clerks who were puzzled why so many new voters were recorded in the system as being registered via "RTV." The bill wouldn't actually do anything. As Rescue Michigan explained in our testimony, for a technical reason the bill would actually fail to prevent the very same arrangement Rock the Vote had from having that same arrangement again next year. Imagine our surprise when moments before we offered verbal testimony, Rep. Lightner admitted she knew it. The committee also voted to move forward House Bill 4840, to extend the period for required election document retention to 22 months after the election. A good policy, but when you realize that federal law already requires this for all major elections, you realize this bill would have no practical impact. These are the only kind of "election integrity" bills the House is advancing: bills that don't do anything. At a moment like this, shortly before the legislature adjourns for two months of campaigning and vacation (while lawmakers still collect full-time pay), it's worth remembering who the Republicans in the legislature have chosen to slap in the face and laugh at. Certainly, it's the grassroots like you and me. People who worked their tails off to help re-elect President Trump, and to help many down-ballot candidates as well. How much time, how much money did you spend trying to get them elected, even if only to ward off the radical Democrats? For some, it was much more than that. I think of Jessy Jacob, the brave whistleblower who testified before the House at risk of attack by the national and international mass media, not to mention the risk of losing her job or even being harmed by the violent left. She spoke out about the illegal signature check policy being carried out by the City of Detroit, as directed statewide by Jocelyn Benson, because the truth mattered. The bills to require uniform signature checks still sit in committee, untouched. I think of Shane Trejo, the journalist whose employer received legal threats and false accusations from Attorney General Dana Nessel for reporting on the DetroitLeaks recording of Detroit election officials training their poll workers to abuse social distancing guidelines to criminally impede poll challengers (as directed by Secretary of State Jocelyn Benson). Shane spent countless hours at TCF Center and got original footage of the infamous 3 am "ballot drop" truck. He was able to get the footage despite poll challengers being criminally impeded from performing their duties. The bills to protect the rights of poll challengers still sit in committee, untouched. I think of the Republican canvassers in Wayne County that faced such severe threats that they certified the election despite overwhelming evidence of misconduct, were berated by the national media, and were sneeringly told that they had no means to rescind certification made under extreme duress. House Bill 4966, to protect their rights, still has no hearing. How many people worked dozens of hours at TCF, and dozens more preparing affidavits and sworn testimony? How many lawyers put their careers and reputation on the line, working for free? What's it all for? For the Republicans? They are the ones that most stand to benefit from clean elections! Yet we are the ones who sacrifice our precious time, talent, and treasure to help put them in office. And they can't even get serious about something that's not only fundamental to a functioning constitutional republic, but to their own political self-preservation? Because of what? Are they afraid of the radical left and the mass media? Afraid of being accused of racism? No amount of placating and pandering to the establishment will prevent that from happening. Democrats have no moral compunction about accusing Republicans of racism and "disenfranchising voters" for any reason, real or imagined. Republicans can't seem to understand that election fraud disenfranchises every single lawful ballot, lawfully cast. On any bill of real substance, they can't even be bothered to hold a hearing – even when, as was proven today, the committee had nothing else to do. It's baffling, but it's clear that a change in tactics on our part will be necessary. As the late Senator Everett Dirksen was fond of saying: "When I feel the heat, I see the light."
